When a complete rewire is the right call
Where cabling is old throughout, has deteriorated, or has been altered so many times that nobody can be sure what's safe to keep, replacing everything is usually the most cost-effective long-term answer. It also avoids the false economy of patching one area and disturbing new decoration later.
Socket positions and lighting
A complete rewire is the one chance to get the layout right. We walk round with you and agree where sockets, switches, lights, outdoor points and data go — bedside sockets, worktop sockets clear of the sink, lighting that suits each room.
Floorboards, chasing and making good
Upstairs, most cables run under suspended floors and through the loft. Downstairs, depending on the floor construction, cables are often dropped from above in wall chases. We fill chases as part of the job; full replastering is quoted separately where needed.
Consumer unit and testing
A new consumer unit is fitted as part of a complete rewire. Once the installation is finished it's tested, every circuit labelled, and you're given the documentation.
Typical stages
- 01
Survey & quotation
We look at the installation, talk through how you use the house and send a written quotation.
- 02
Walk-round & planning
Socket, switch and lighting positions are agreed room by room, along with the order of work.
- 03
First fix
Floorboards are lifted, walls chased, back boxes fitted and new cables run. The old circuits are made dead.
- 04
Making good
Chases are filled and floors refixed. Plastering follows where the quotation includes it.
- 05
Second fix
Sockets, switches, light fittings and the consumer unit are connected.
- 06
Testing & handover
The installation is tested, labelled and explained to you, with documentation on completion.
