House Rewiring FAQs
Straight answers to the questions homeowners ask us most.
Common questions
How do I know if my house needs rewiring?
Common signs include an old fuse box, rubber or fabric cables, unearthed lighting circuits, scorched or warm sockets, frequent tripping and too few sockets. A rewiring survey confirms what's needed.
How much does a house rewire cost?
It depends on the size of the property, the number of circuits and points, construction, access, occupancy and making good. We give a written quotation after surveying.
How long does a rewire take?
That depends on the size of the house, whether it's occupied and how the work fits with other trades. We'll give you a realistic programme for your property.
Can I live in the house during the work?
Usually, yes. We work room by room. An empty house is quicker and less disruptive.
Will you lift floorboards and chase walls?
Yes, along cable routes. Floorboards are refixed and chases filled. The quotation states what further making good is included.
Is the old wiring removed?
Accessible cables are removed; buried cables are disconnected and left dead.
Do you replace the consumer unit?
Yes on a full rewire. On a partial rewire we'll advise whether the existing board is suitable.
Is a rewiring survey a certificate?
No. It's an assessment to scope rewiring work, not a formal certificate or report.
Which areas do you cover?
Surrey and surrounding areas, including Guildford, Farnham, Esher, Farnborough, Ascot and Reading.
